GOD SENDS MOSES TO EGYPT
Exodus 4:1-31 Key Verse: 4:11-12 "The LORD said to him, 'Who gave man his mouth? Who makes him deaf or mute? Who gives him sight or makes him blind? Is it not I, the LORD? Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.'”
In this passage God sends Moses off to Egypt, but Moses had many reservations about his human ability to speak and ability to convince his own people. God was showing him that he is the Creator who can enable him and reveal his glory. We also may have no confidence in our human ability to speak or lead people, but God wants to use us as his instrument when we rely on God's word. God was giving hope to his suffering people, caught up in seeming pointless slavery under Pharaoh. God is giving us hope that we can worship him as free human beings in holiness. |

MAN LIVES ON EVERY WORD THAT COMES FROM THE MOUTH OF GOD
Matthew 4:1-11 Key Verse: 4:4 "Jesus answered, 'It is written: "Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.”'"
Today’s passage reveals deep spiritual warfare with the devil. Jesus stood on guard against the devil’s schemes. Jesus demonstrates that he is our savior. He understands the enemy and that the solution is simply to hold on to God’s word. Through Jesus’ example, we can defeat the devil’s temptation in our own lives. |

GOD APPEARS TO MOSES IN THE BURNING BUSH
Exodus 3:1-22 Key Verse: 3:5
"'Do not come any closer,' God said. 'Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.'"In this passage Moses meets God personally at the burning bush. God wanted to use Moses as his servant to deliver his people. His people were enslaved by the power of Pharaoh. God wanted to reveal his glory through signs and wonders. God taught Moses that he was standing on holy ground. Up until that time Moses had lived with a sense of guilt and defeat, having run away from the palace in Egypt, living as a fugitive in the Sinai wilderness. God had a great plan in calling Moses. In the same way God is calling people today to be his servant and deliver people from the bondage to sin and Satan through the blood of Jesus. |

GOD APPEARS TO MOSES IN THE BURNING BUSH
Exodus 3:1-22 Key Verse: 3:5 I. Where You Are Standing Is Holy Ground (1-12)1. Where had Moses been living and why? Where did he wander one day? How did the LORD appear to him (2), and why did he think it strange? When God called Moses, how did he reply? |

JOSEPH BRINGS THE CHILD JESUS TO EGYPT FOR A WHILE
Matthew 2:13-23 Key Verse: 2:13 "When they had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. 'Get up,' he said, 'take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.'"
Today's passage continues the passage we studied for Christmas of the Magi. In this passage Joseph led his family with Jesus to Egypt, to escape those who sought Jesus' life. When Joseph obeyed God's word, then their lives were preserved. Though it looked like Herod was firmly in control, God was working to fulfill various Bible prophecies behind the scenes. |

MOSES WAS DRAWN OUT
Exodus 2:1-25 Key Verse: 2:10 "When the child grew older, she took him to Pharaoh’s daughter and he became her son. She named him Moses, saying, 'I drew him out of the water.'”
This passage tells about the time and circumstances of Moses' birth. During that dark time, God was guiding events by his sovereign hand to reveal his glory at his right time. In this passage Moses escaped death on the Nile, was adopted and raised in Pharaoh's household. Later he ran away and lived in Midian. Each event was led by God's sovereign hand. God is leading history. God also hears the cries of his people. |

THE HEBREW MIDWIVES, HOWEVER, FEARED GOD
Exodus 1:1-22 Key Verse: 1:17 "The midwives, however, feared God and did not do what the king of Egypt had told them to do; they let the boys live."
Since the time of Abraham in Genesis God saw the future that the Israelites would be enslaved but come out stronger. Despite the hardship they experienced in Egypt, God was using their hardships and godless environment to mold them to be a holy nation. Everything was happening according to God's sovereign purpose. In this passage we see how the political tide turned and how the Israelites fell out of favor with the Egyptian king, Pharaoh. Despite this difficult time, people of God showed their faith in God instead of being slaves of fear. May God bless our study of Exodus and give us spiritual insight. |

WE HAVE COME TO WORSHIP HIM
Matthew 2:1-12 Key Verse: 2:2 "and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him.' "
Today's passage is about some Magi who came from far away just to worship the baby Jesus. We want to learn from their pure motive to find the object of worship. We also see that King Herod failed to accept Jesus, but instead just pretended to be a worshiper. Many people are just struggling with many petty things on a daily basis and lose the big picture. May God give us the meaning of Christmas through this passage. |

GOD DWELLS AMONG PATIENT BELIEVERS WHO PRAY WITH FAITH
James 5:7-20 Key Verse: 5:17-18 "Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops."
Today we finish our study in the book of James. In this book we learn that Christians should control themselves: control their tongue, control our deeds and so on. Our faith and deeds should be working together. Today we see the virtue of patience and prayer of faith. |
